Free-Write #1

This is just some essay thing we had to write for Lupin last year. I didn't know what I should write here so I'll just put this.

You sit down in front of the television and turn it on. You see something you don’t like and change the channel. A normal routine for most people right? This is the type of freedom we the people have over our use of television, internet, and the radio. Like always we have the option of what to watch and no one can tell us other wise. Minow on the other hand had different ideas “The power of instantaneous sight and sound is without precedent in mankind’s history. This is and awesome power. It has limitless capabilities for good-and for evil. And it carries with it awesome responsibilities-
responsibilities which you and [the government] cannot escape...” Both the government and the viewers always have the option of what you want to watch and what you let the other members of the household watch.
Minow did have some reason when he stated that the government does have some responsibilities in the use of the media, but only to a certain extent. The only things that the government has most control over in the media, would be censoring what is said on the television and the radio. The government has created the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Due to the FCC only shows with a certain amount of censoring are aired at times when the public is around to watch these shows.
The only other exceptions that the other uncensored shows are aired is late at night or, if the viewer pays extra for a special package to air those shows at any time. A lot of shows are usually put on a different channel for the more older/mature audiences. As for the internet the government really has no form of censoring it. The internet really is open to all the public without having any age limits for information. The only thing that the internet does have instead of censoring is suggested ratings along with suggested age groups that the page should be viewed by. Other than the FCC, the government has no other methods of media censoring.

Developing Your Character

Character Name: Steve
Age: 18
Occupation: Theater Staff

He looks down at the knife's beauty. So smooth, so durable, and oh so sharp. While admiring this perfect tool in his right hand, he holds her whimpering face in the other. Black tears stroll down her face, just to land on her silky smooth white shirt. He kiss her lips one last time. For barely knowing this woman, he had fallen in love with her. He presses the knife so carefully against her lips and whispers in her ear, "You shall be mine for all eternity." He then raises the knife above her heart, with a short pause to admire her last living breah...

"Steve!" his co-worker said from behind.
"Hello! I wanta large soda, medium popcorn and two hot dogs." A female customer ordered.
"Pay attention, wake up, something! Com' on! It's premiere weekend. The rush is coming in." Snapped his co-worker again. Steve takes the woman's order and hands her the change. Then the next customer comes up and orders, pays, leaves. Then another orders, pays, leaves and the next costumer after that and the one after the last.

Steven reflects on the last three years spent in the world of popcorn and clean up. With each passing day his fantasies grew more and more bloodcurdling. The folowing days he continues with his fantasies and each time he comes closer to the kill.
